Ohhhhh that Debbie Bliss!

14 Aug

So, I know I am loooong overdue for an update! I have plenty o’ pics stored away and words of wisdom to impart on you.  However, no time again today.  But I will share a quick rant!  As you know I have been diligently working on a cardigan for my mom – on and off since last October – from the premiere issue of Debbie Bliss’ magazine.  Well, I recently started the sleeve.  After the ribbed cuff the pattern continues as such:  Work 4 rows of St st.  Inc row: k3, m1, k to last 3 sts, m1, k3.  Inc 1 st in this way at each end of every foll 8th row until there are  (86) sts.  Cont straight until sleeve measures 18in from co edge, ending with a p row.

Ok, right?  Except the increase row was 2 increases, and she says increase 1 stitch in this way.  Well….not quite sure if she means increase 1 stitch at end of every 8th row or 2 stitches every 8th row.  Right?  Am I alone in this confusion?  Well, I decided to do what the pattern said.  End of every 8th row I increased 1 stitch.  So now, I have 64 stitches and 16 1/2 inches.  Well, something is not adding up.  There is no way I can get another 26 stitches in (every 8 rows) in an inch and a half! No way!

So what did I do? I don’t want to talk about it! :’-(

I pulled out all the way to the cuff.  It was sad. Hence the tear in my sad face above.  And now, I will do what the pattern SHOULD have said.  Inc 2 st in this way at end of every foll 8th row!  Waste of my time!  Grrrrrrrrrr!

Curls, purls and gurls!

9 Oct

Well, I pulled out the whole scarf!!! L watched me do it…and we cried!  No, but we couldn’t believe it!  It was so curled up it didn’t make sense to keep going.  So, I pulled it all out and started a new one in garter!  It’s coming along nicely!

So, I’m currently working on the latest scarf.  It feels like forever since I last used straight needles, and even longer since I made a scarf but L and I have a few more to go to at least make our ‘quota’.   I started a wine red scarf 2 days ago and it was decided that it would in stocking stitch.  Well, L advised me to use a special edge (selvage) to stop or hinder the scarf from curling.  The edge is:  slip 1 knitwise (s1kwise), knit 1 at beginning of every row; knit 2 at end of every row.  Well….. you be the judge!

And here is the edge!  Any ideas?

Rrrrrrribbit!

25 Aug

So, my 7th scarf has gone the way of the dodos.  After 25 rows of seed stitch, I got impatient because the scarf was taking awhile-bad knitter, I know! So, I moved into knit garter stitch and planned on returning to the last 25 rows in seed stitch.  When I switched to the garter I somehow managed to recreate 2 rows of that boxy stitch-when I first tried the seed stitch with an odd number of stitches.  I did about another 25 or 30 rows of garter and took a good look at my scarf.  And it was unsightly: un·sight·li·ness, noun.  unattractive, ugly, disagreeable.  Honestly! It was skinny, then weird, then thicker… So, along came the frog and ribbit!  I pulled it all out!
